Convergence
Hi... here I go. =)One example of convergence would be the MOBTV. In the past, when video recorder was invented, every one was so amazed by its function. It can record shows that you have missed out and/or auto-record shows by setting the timing. But now with the creation of MOBTV, video recorders are no longer needed.
MOBTV stands for MediaCorp Online Broadband Television. It is a video-on-demand subscription on broadband where you can access to your favourite programmes via digital streaming or download from Internet.
Subscribers can view a wide range of programme genres such as drama, variety, sitcom, news, reality and movies. Besides staring local shows from the mainstream channels, they also provide subscribers with Asian dramas, movies etc.
Subscribers can watch their favourite shows the day after broadcast by opting for pay-per-view or monthly subscription of S$16.20.
This service would be useful for busy Singaporeans who are not able to watch the show on the scheduled time. With the convenience of Internet, a click on the mouse will solve their problem. They can forgo the hassle of recording the show.
MOBTV is like a ‘advanced’ recorder where it can ‘records’ and plays shows at your convenience. We have moved from the traditional video recorder set to the wonderful Internet. The advance of technologies has changed the way we live and do things. Technologies have made our life easier or rather have caused humans to become more pampered and lazy.
What if all these technologies are gone and we are back to our good old days? Can we still survive?
We have become so dependent on technologies. Like now, I am typing on the computer instead of writing on a piece of paper. =x
