Couch Potato's take on DVR TV

Was SHOCKED to see 10 posts reflected in Blogger's dashboard. HAHA. No offense hor.

Anyway, hello, you guys. Was reading Yijin's posts just now and realised I have stuff to say regarding TV too. Don't think it's really a digital convergence thing though. Digital convergence thing will come later.

As some of you may know, I am very into watching TV. Thanks to StarHub Cable TV's Digital Video Recorder Set Top Box (I do sound like an walking ad) I can record my favourite shows even when I am at school and can't watch them. If you guys were at lecture a couple weeks ago, this is very much like TiVo, only TiVo's cooler because you can even schedule last minute programmes VIA THE WEB! (My utopian situation.)

I think the impact is pretty great, because not only can you control the stuff your kids watch (there are child-friendly filters), you can sort your favourite shows into a personal folder and not have to snatch the remote with your mom/dad/siblings/pet all the time. Also, you can watch them anytime you want, like on a lazy weekend afternoon when you're really in the mood for good TV you just spend a few hours finishing up all the great shows you've recorded over the week. It is SO convenient, and you can even fast forward through all the ads.

You can even watch while it is recording, in fact. Think it's a real time-saving factor, this one. Let's say you have something on at 8 and can only get home at 10, but your show starts at 9.30. No problem. You get home at 10, select the recording program and just watch it! You can even fast forward, but of course if the show hasn't finished broadcasting yet you can only fast forward to wherever it's currently being recorded to.

Everything is so convenient nowadays, even simple things like watching the TV. It's so customised and so consumer-oriented, you never know if one day they'd come up with a remote to remove your bowels without you feeling it.
