nct reflections

Hmm, well I guess I feel the same way as Lydia. I dreaded NCT in the beginning because technology just isn't my thing. Being the 'slow' person I am,I find it really difficult to keep up with the trends sometimes.

Anyway, the VeriChip that Lydia mentioned reminded me about the discussion of how new communication technologies is affecting our lives and privacy. We might think that the eye-scan and spyders in Minority Report is somethig that is so remote, yet who knows? 10-20 years down the road that could possibly be a reality.

It seems ironic that while we humans want more convenience in everything we do, we don't want to compromise our privacy in the process. It's quite scary to know that our every move in the cyberworld can be tracked using our IP address and cookies. In the cyberworld, we are no longer just known by our names and faces, instead we are identified by numbers and html codes.

I guess a lesson that I have learnt from NCT would be how to protect my privacy better online. I never knew there were so many things that we could do to protect our privacy, such as masking our IP address and deleting our cookies. Though these methods are not exactly foolproof, I guess it's better than having nothing at all.

Will we ever reach a balance between technological advances and protecting our privacy? I guess only time will tell (:
