Status: It's complicated

As far near as my research has shown, digital convergence took a big step forward in 2005 when Microsoft released its Media Centre. That's when you can watch TV from your PC or vice versa, depending on which screen is bigger.

With the Media Centre, the uses of a TV and PC are integrated. We can now read an email before watching the Ellen show, and when things get a little bit dry videos on Youtube will be handy to kill some time as Minority Report on HBO will only be in an hour's time.

All these are done with the touch of buttons on the remote control or a wireless keyboard.

Plus, communication can be online eg MSN, Skype. And there's also Internet radio, online shopping and news can be read off through the Net. Pretty soon, digital convergence will put everything into one place and perhaps omits the likelihood of people going out of their homes unless for physical, social purposes only.

Now who can blame us for being a couch potato?
